A Glimpse Into a Thai Classroom

Posted by claudio on August 22, 2009 in Teaching in Thailand |

I was asked to take over some Mathayom 1 and 2 classes until the end of the semester and gladly accepted. I enjoy teaching the younger grades and this is my first lesson with the students of M2/1.

I wanted to gauge the students’ progress so far with this lesson and therefore presented them with an easy subject: Numbers. The class starts out with a brief warm up exercise that hones listening skill and the ability to respond to questions in a timely fashion. Then the heart of the lesson: numbers. How to write them, and how to use them together with simple math operators. The lesson gave students an opportunity to test their understanding of how to write numbers by completing a crossword puzzle, before we moved on to a game of Tic-Tac-Toe to practice speaking numbers and basic equations in English.
