Christmas Senses

Experience Christmas through all five senses with this poem by Pastor Wayne VanHorn:

Christmas Senses

I look around at Christmas to see such terrific sights,
Homes and buildings decorated with beautiful Christmas lights.
Bright lights, colored lights, lights all white and clear,
Enter my heart through my eyes to say ‘Christmas is near.’

I smell the candles burning; I smell eggnog, and cookies too,
I smell the scent of the Christmas tree, of evergreens so true.
Incense, candles, Christmas greens, smells so fresh and clear,
Enter my heart through my nose to say ‘Christmas is near.’

I hear hand bells ringing; I hear bells jingle on the sleigh,
And the beautiful sounds of carolers singing all along the way.
Children’s choirs and Christmas carols ringing out so clear,
Enter my heart through my ears to say ‘Christmas is near.’

I taste the holiday goodies, cookies, pies, and Christmas ham,
My mouth waters with holiday treats, dressing and sweet yams.
Ginger bread, candy canes, chocolates with flavors clear,
Enter my heart through my mouth to say ‘Christmas is near.’

I touch the ornaments on the Christmas tree, gentle, smooth and neat,
I touch the hands of Christian friends, whose love is very sweet.
Christmas cards, packages, gifts expressing love so clear,
Enter my heart through my fingertips to say ‘Christmas is near.’

A very Merry Christmas
and a Happy New Year!
